Hey Ma! I wanna be an artist!
Ever since I was little I made things. For most of my childhood I entertained myself with my imagination creating sets and props for my imaginary world out of cardboard, tempera paint and stickers. My mother tells a funny little story about me as a kid. Apparently when I was around five or six I told my parents that I wanted to live with them forever. They asked me what I wanted to do when I grew up. Probably hopefully thinking that I would say something that would allow them to explain why I would move out and get a job. I replied "I am going to be an artist!" At this my parents realized… I might be living with them forever. However I am now a senior in high school and have my acceptance letter to a great college where I will be studying theater technical/ design with the future goal of being a costume designer. My second love was theater and my third love was sewing combine this with my original passion for art and you get costume designer. My Grandma Rachel will tell you that she knew I would be a designer before I was four. I would draw outfit designs and she would sew them for me. My Grandma Mildred also claims to have seen my design aptitude early on when she bought a bunch of fabric for the cousins and I to play with. I ended up crafting costumes for the four of using the fabric some safety pins and duct tape. By the way I still love duct tape!
